History
The Court was established under the Organic Act of the Territory of Irad, and its first justices took office in November 1992. In the territorial period justices were appointed by the Governor with the consent of the Territorial Senate. The Judicial Reforms Act of 2003 reorganised the lower courts into district courts, introduced jury trials in serious criminal cases and established commercial arbitration procedures.
The opinion of December 2006 on the status of the territory was annulled by decree of 25 February 2007. The bench was reconstituted in 2007, and since then the Court has applied the Organic Act and the territorial statutes as continuing in force while sovereignty is suspended. Since 2007 justices have been confirmed by the single-chamber legislature.
The Court's reports and jurisprudence for 1992–2023 are held at the State Archives (Fond 111).
