Supreme Court
Final appeals, constitutional review, commercial cases, the bar.
District courts
Trial courts for civil, commercial and criminal cases since the Judicial Reforms Act of 2003, among them the Talas District Court. Serious criminal cases are tried with a jury.
Magistrate courts
Municipal magistrate courts of Talas, Nurzhan and Iyık Janyl: minor offences, small claims, administrative fines. Appeals lie to the Supreme Court.
Customary law
The jurisdiction of the courts of the Zone extends to the Irad Special Economic Zone. Matters arising across the Qara-Chik Demarcation Line, such as livestock disputes, are handled through the liaison arrangements of the 2007 ceasefire.
